Maidstone River festival

We strolled along the banks of the Medway yesterday watching people messing about on the river. The fun raft race was a sight to behold and it was a joy to see so many people relaxed and enjoying themselves.
The Maidstone River Festival is held annually and gets better every time. Boats come from all over the south-east and beyond and judging by the amount of booze we saw stashed on these floating bars, they all partied well into the night.
The event culminates in a firework display over the town which we unfortunately couldn't stay for.

Here are some more waterborne idiots.

The difficulty comes in trying to beat the previous year's raft design! Floating Farmyard in 2006, Floating zoo in 2007... what next!?

I THINK THAT WITH THE CANCELATION OF THE RIVER FESTIVAL,THAT ALL BOATERS SHOULD STILL MEET AT MAIDSTONE AND FORM OUR OWN RIVER FESTIVAL, OK SO NO RAFT RACE ETC, BUT STILL ALL THE FUN ON THE RIVER AS EVER

I plan to be there!

We're also looking at doing another raft this year. I read in the KM that East Farleigh Cruising Club were looking at the option of redoing the raft race themselves.

Good on them!

Fun blog! Enjoyed the read. After successfully avoiding the sweaty, boozy hustle and bustle of the Maidstone River Festival for about fifteen year (I know, bah humbug...) I took a stroll down there on Saturday and actually enjoyed seeing the boats on the river. As you say, it was nice to see everyone relaxed and having fun ... can't imagine why anyone would want to splash about in the Medway though ... urgh!
